Caregiver College announced
November marks the celebration of National Caregiver Month, and Heartland Hospice and McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church have joined together to create Caregiver College: Free Resources for Caregivers. A series of educational classes, Caregiver College gives those caring for a loved one the opportunity to learn from experts helpful tips and resources that will enable the best care possible.
“As experts in the field of caring, we are confident these classes will offer useable tools to people who want to do the most important thing in their lives as well as possible: care for loved ones,” said Harry Smith, Heartland Chaplain.
“Nursing Tips” is the first session that opens the four-class course and will be taught by two registered nurses with more than 10 years experience in their field. Week two will focus on free resources available in the community and feature representatives from various non-profit agencies who will inform about their services. The third class will teach advanced care planning, including living wills and how to complete advanced directives. The last session will share ideas on getting through the holidays.
Caregiver College classes will be offered 6 p.m. Tuesdays beginning this week and continue until Nov. 30. Sessions will convene in Room 229 at McFarlin Church, 419 S. University Ave. For more information or to sign up, call Ashley Olivo at 923-8799.
